Prof. Dr. Olivier Costa

 

During the winter semester 2011/12 Prof. Dr. Olivier Costa was THESEUS Visiting Professor at the University of Cologne.

 

Prof. Dr. Olivier Costa is a Senior Research Fellow at the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), within the Centre Emile Durkheim of Sciences Po Bordeaux (France). He is teaching EU studies at Sciences Po Bordeaux. He is also Visiting Professor at the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium), the Institute for European Studies of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium) and the European Institute of the University of Geneva (Switzerland).

 

He has been post-doctoral fellow at the European studies institute of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (1999) and has taught at Sciences Po Strasbourg, Sciences Po Paris, Ritsumeikan University (Kyoto), Washington State University (Pullman), and University of Colorado (Boulder). He has created and co-chairs the European studies section of the Association Française de Science Politique.He is member of the board of the Journal of European Integration. Furthermore, he has acted as an expert for the European Parliament, the European Commission (DG research) and the Mercosur. His priorities in research include EU institutions and policies, European Parliament, French Parliament, comparative legislative politics and compared regionalism. He is currently coordinating several research projects about MPs and MEPs.

 

He has published in journals such as Journal of European Public Policy, West European Politics, Journal of European Integration, Journal of Legislative Studies, Revue Française de Science politique, Politique européenne, Revue international de politique compare and has authored and edited several books (recently, with E. Kerrouche, Qui sont les députés français ? Paris, 2007 ; with F. Saint Martin, Le Parlement européen, 2009 ; with N. Brack, Le fonctionnement de l’Union européenne, Brussels, 2011).

 

Course: The Parliamentarisation of the European Union

At the Jean Monnet Chair for Political Science at the University of Cologne he gave a course for Master students about “The Parliamentarisation of the European Union”.
